Infrared Analysis:
Danger That is Not Seen With The Naked Eye
Download PDFPower Systems & Controls' Infrared Analysis will help optimize facility health management to improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE). Infrared Scans or IR Analysis are typical terms used to express the use of an infrared imaging camera to "see" and "measure" thermal energy emitted from an object. Thermal, infrared energy, is light that is not visible to the human eye. It is the part of the electromagnetic spectrum that we perceive as heat. Even very cold objects, like ice cubes, emit infrared heat. Infrared scans locate "hot spots" in your electrical infrastructure, which can represent the deterioration of electrical components due to corrosion, vibration, electrical resistance, ground faults, and short circuits. These "hot spots" show up in an infrared scan allowing customers to see where electrical connections and components have degraded and pose a risk to facility integrity and safety.
A PS&C Infrared Inspection/Analysis is a needed addition to any company's predictive/preventative maintenance plan because it allows for instant monitoring, thermal trending, and early detection of electrical and mechanical problems before they result in equipment damage, downtime, emergency maintenance costs, and injury to personnel. Also IR scans are non-invasive and since they are performed on energized equipment, there is no disruption to a facility's operations.
Infrared scans identify problems early enough for corrective action to be scheduled before they become critical issues. These tests are performed on both electrical and mechanical equipment, and are recommended by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and the InterNational Electrical Testing Association. PS&C's Infrared Analysis are carried out by trained certified technicians dedicated to supporting the life of your facility.
